How to Identify Popular Hashtags
Hashtags are a terrific way to group related posts and conversations together on social media channels. For example, you might be at a conference, and there is a hashtag for the conference. You can filter out the conversation to engage with people at the conference, promote your brand/products/services using the hashtag and more.
Hashtags are used on social channels and are important in your business – you may be missing a trick if you are not using them.
When you use relevant hashtags (#) on your social media posts, people who are searching for those keywords can find your tweets and updates and can potentially follow you or reach out to you. Unfortunately, if you use the wrong hashtags, you will not get the additional exposure you want, and your marketing will not be as interesting.
Hashtags are very popular on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and Google+. Instagram is where hashtags are used the most, so it is advisable to never share Instagram posts without some hashtags. On Twitter, however, use no more than two hashtags for any tweet, and try not to use general hashtags like #sports.
The following tools/tips should help you to identify popular hashtags, but it is important to mention that the most popular hashtags are not always the best ones to use because there are so many people sharing content using that hashtag. It is easy for content to get lost in the rush when there is an overwhelming number of posts. So, do not always pick the number one hashtag on the list.
